The Wheel Keeps Turning …

It seems like years ago (and it “was”) that the first arrivals to the Isle of Asylum found themselvesin a “lost colony” situation.

Many doubted that The Empire would ever reopen The Gate.

But eventually, they did. And so, over time, the worries on Asylum have changed. “Do we have enough food to feed everyone ?” has now changed to worrying about fulfilling Imperial Quotas and negotiating with the native tribes to try and integrate Asylum with the rest of The Empire.

As the lazy days of Summer fade on Asylum, life continues an unstoppable march forward …

Old enemies still abound – The Scalese are back to their raiding again, and Hargrim Jahl seems to have revenge on his mind …

The ranks of friends seems to be growing thinner,

3 Dogri Loremasters were taught how to make the cure : Now, one is dead, one is missing – how long will the third last ?

But as the wheel keeps turning – New faces are expected. Word from the Heartworld says that a new Agent Extraordinary has been assigned to the Isle of Asylum – and with the new agent should come information about the Tests of Worth - Prospective candidates for Colonial Governor await The Tests, not entirely sure what will be asked of them...

The fallout from the battle in the sky continues –

the number of survivors at Camp Dauntless slowly increases daily …

Leaders will come and go – both within the confines of New Avinnia, and throughout the Valley.

But one thing always endures : The colonists of the Ninth Isle – The Isle of Asylum !

Lady Gaga Comes Out as Intersex?

Pop star sensation Lady Gaga surprised her millions of fans by parading on stage without an underwear showing that she is intersex and has male and female genitalia. This has not yet been confirmed, but the video is certainly interesting.

Video and more info on her alleged reply at http://queersunited.blogspot.com/2009/08/lady-gaga-comes-out-as-intersex.html

Misguided chivalry

So there's this dude in my gaming group whom I'll call "B" for purposes of this post.

B is a nice enough guy, if not the most perceptive. There doesn't seem to be any malice in him, though.

However, his attitude about women seems a little...backward (for lack of a better word) to me. In at least three instances recently, he's had his male character "protect" my female one by standing in front of her in a fight - despite my character being more capable in a fight than his is (both my gals had better combat stats than his guys, and one of those instances was in a Werewolf: The Apocalypse game, where ALL the PCs could turn into big furry killing machines, so it wasn't like my gal needed protecting).

Talking to B is difficult, because he...doesn't really talk much. He also tends to not take criticism well (I can remember a game I was running number of years ago when I gave him a talking-to about similar concerns and he ended up sulking, leaving the game, and refusing to talk to me for over a month).

I suspect he thinks that "protecting" my female characters is the chivalrous thing to do. Unfortunately, I see it more as male chauvinism (and he'd likely deny that if I said it outright).

He recently left my current game (which was set in a matriarchal world, which probably had something to do with his departure, based on the evidence above), but it's likely we'll be in a game together again (we both tend to game in the same circles). Any ideas on how to deal with him if this should come up again? I'd like to keep things friendly, because, as I said, we tend to move in the same gaming circles.

Dragon Con, Anyone?

So - as some of you know I'm going to Film School in January (I was accepted to the Masters of Film and Digital media program in Sydney AU). My film professor actually suggested I go to some interest focused film festivals before I hit grad school to better focus my studies, and given my interest in sci fi and fantasy, Dragon Con was one she suggested (as was the Nat History film festival in Montana : ).

That said - I have a sleeping bag, a blow up outback mattress, and some funds to contribute toward the room (thus making it cheaper for all involved), plus mad mojito making skills. Does anyone have Dragon Con crash space, or knowledge of said crash space? You'd be doing a great thing by helping an aspiring filmmaker/writer, and you'd probably get a free mojito out of it : ).

Please let me know asap. If I go to this I need to buy airline tickets immediately.

This post will probably be cross listed.
